    Prior to the final child life internship semester, it is the student′s responsibility to make sure the following items are addressed and/or completed. Failure to comply will mean a postponement and/or change of focus in the student′s plan of study.

    • MEET WITH YOUR ADVISOR OFTEN
    • Complete all required coursework. Some courses are only taught in the Spring or Fall semester. It is the student′s responsibility to plan accordingly.
    • Accrue 100 hospital practicum/volunteer hours prior to internship.
    • Have the required grade point average (2.5 overall, 2.5 in the major) prior to making application.
    • Join the Child Life Council (www.childlife.org)
    • Make application to the Child Life Concentration during your junior year prior to taking HD 426.
    • Receive written acceptance into the Child Life Concentration.
    • Begin applying for internships the semester prior to the desired start of the internship. It is recommended that students apply to at least 10 hospitals with established child life internship programs. It is important to work with the child life advisor during this procedure.
    • Once you have been selected for an internship, talk with the internship coordinator.
    • Secure liability insurance verification prior to internship. Go to the following website http://financialaffairs.ua.edu/riskmgmt/index.htm. Print off and complete the Request for Verification of Professional Liability Insurance form. Take the completed form to the HDFS Internship Coordinator to sign and take the signed form to Dora Hobson for processing – Room 134 Rose Administration Building, 348-4534.
