Human Development and Family studies
"Helping children and families thrive and flourish!"
The Department
The Department offers two academic minors as well. The first, a minor in Human Development and Family Studies, provides supplemental training for non-majors on child development, adolescent development, and family studies. The second, a minor in Addiction and Recovery, provides students with an understanding of addictive disorders, treatment for addictive disorders, recovery, and the impact of addiction on the family.
Our graduate program has concentrations in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT), Parent and Family Life Education (PAFLE), and Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS). Students completing the MFT program can become Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists. Students completing the PAFLE program can become Certified Family Life Educators. Students in the HDFS program will work closely with a faculty member to conduct research and will be well prepared for future doctoral work or for administrative positions in child, adolescent, adult, or family agencies.
Through faculty and student research, the Department is dedicated to generating and applying new knowledge in the service of improving the quality of life for individuals, families, and communities in Alabama and the region.
