    1. Print off and complete the “HDFS Internship Application Form“. An Internship Packet with specific guidelines will be made available by your internship coordinator.

    2. Schedule meeting with the internship coordinator, Dr. Blitch.

    3. Bring completed “HDFS Internship Application Form” to meeting with Dr. Blitch.

    4. A meeting with Dr. Blitch will include a discussion of:


    • career goals
    • internship goals
    • possible internship sites
    • protocol for making internship contacts

    5. After meeting with Dr. Blitch, student pursues contacts with possible internship sites.

    6. After deciding on an internship placement, the student then contacts Dr. Blitch about the decision. Dr. Blitch will follow up by confirming the placement with the on-site internship supervisor.

    7. Student attends the mandatory internship meeting at the end of the semester prior to the internship to review internship requirements. Note: The internship application, background check, and all other paperwork must be submitted before the student can begin an internship.

    8. Student makes an appointment with the supervisor at the internship placement site to discuss: a) responsibilities, b) scheduling, and c) the first day of internship.

    *Internships are completed during the last semester of the student′s undergraduate program. No more than 6 additional credit hours maybe taken the semester of internship.

    *A cumulative GPA of 2.0 is required before an internship can be pursued. An overall GPA of 2.5 is required for an off-campus internship.

    *Internships are 6 or 12 credit hours. Only students concentrating in Child Life or Early Child Development (ECHS) may register for a 12 credit hour internship. ECHS students registered for 12 credit hours will complete internships in the Children’s Program of the Child Development Research Center. To insure the student is well prepared, all major courses must be taken before the internship. For 12 hour internships, all courses must be completed prior to the internship. No additional hours can be taken during a 12 hour internship.
