    response to the COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Due to concerns regarding COVID-19, classes at The University of Alabama allowed an extended Spring Break to allow faculty time to move coursework to alternative and online learning. Afterwards, students will not be returning to classes on campus for the Spring semester but will instead transition to remote or alternative learning (depending on the course).  Students will need to check their Blackboard courses for specific information about each class they are enrolled in.

During this challenging time, The College of Human Environmental Sciences is committed to supporting our students, faculty, and staff.  We are working with various stakeholders, such as the Office of Disability Services, Testing Services, and others, to make this transition as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Academic advising will resume by distance once courses resume.  If a student has not already met with an advisor, or if they have any questions, they should contact their academic advisor by e-mail to set up a time to speak with them about their academic schedule prior to registration.  No face-to-face advising appointments will be scheduled in an effort to adhere to the University’s efforts towards social distancing.  If a student is unsure as to who their advisor is, this information can be found by looking in their Degreeworks.   If they need additional assistance, they should contact the HES Student Services office at hesstudentservices@ches.ua.edu

Part of that initiative is to offer new ways for our audience to interact with us on the web via the use of the most popular social networking tools on the web, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Vimeo, Flickr & iTunes U.

Now you can get the latest information, connect with CHES and with other students, alumni and staff, interact with great streaming video content, and more. Add CHES to your social networking tools and help create a community of CHES supporters.

    Computer Services

The College of Human Environmental Sciences has three instructional computer labs and one open computer lab, which provide supervised environments where students may gain knowledge and experience in computer applications. The labs also supply CHES faculty with state of the art computer facilities and training to aid teaching and research activities.

    HES Open Computer Lab:
    135 Adams Hall Hours: Monday – Thursday 8:30am – 11:00pm
    Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm
    Sunday 2:00pm – 10:00pm

    Instructional Computer Labs include:
    203 Child Development Resources
    115 East Annex
    310 Doster Hall

The labs are monitored by student lab assistants to help students and faculty with troubleshooting general software and general hardware problems. The student lab assistants will not do computer projects for other students. All students are expected to do their own work and learn how to use the various software programs on their own.
